winter mitts

Just joined up here (thanks Amy!)... I'm still working on different winter stuff but here's one side of the mittens I'm working on!! I'm truly excited because it's Fair Isle and in the round.. and my first attempt at both!!!

and the palm side
This is the right hand mitten and I hope to finish them this weekend and work on the other side and a matching pair for my husband.. oooh so exciting.. :) I'm also working on some Big Wool and Biggy Print Rowan stuff (I know I'm spoilt) - but don't know when that's going to come to fruition..
there's just not enough time in the day for enough knitting.. if you know what I mean.

Ahhh HA!

I KNEW it. I just KNEW it. I completed a poncho, a sweater and some felted bags, but was distracted again. I got involved in knitting and felting kitty beds for a donation to Petfinders, and now Halloween is near and I just have to have one of the Hallowigs from Knitty.com. Why now? Why at last minute? Why are these cool holidays so close? If Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween were spread out in the year Nov and Dec wouldn't be so much fun but is sure would be easier!

Anyway, I am having lunch with a knitting friend of mine tomorrow, so her influence may help me focus. Nothing like knitting and sushi - great things go together. Just have to remember to keep the Cashmerino out of the wasabi. Or the Kureyon off the eel sushi.

***just to be catty, the holiday Vogue certainly didn't distract me with new things I want to make. Most of it was just too....too... much. I am just not one for corsets or glittery yarn***

Happy Halloween, everyone! Be safe, but be scary.

Holiday present #2

Well I certainly dropped the ball with getting the holiday presents completed early. I started out with a bang and finished my first present in July and now it is the end of October and I am just getting around to present #2. This hat only took me a couple of days to do. I needed easy knitting in order to be able to watch the ALC games. It is done in Noro Silk Garden #204. I would like to do a matching scarf also but I don't even have the yarn for it yet. I hope everyone else is doing well with their holiday knitting. :)

My completed presents so far

So far I've finished 4 presents for various people for Christmas. From left to right: socks for my mom (yep, she has small feet!), mittens for my SIL from Lion Brand Landscapes using the Weekend Knits pattern-- Super Mittens, a novelty scarf for my SIL, and at the top is the Irish Hiking Scarf for my brother out of Wool Ease in Mink. I knit it on smaller needles-- size 6 or 7 can't remember-- to make it a little narrower, and hopefully increase the likelyhood that he'll wear it.

I've also finished a pair of mittens for myself out of the same yarn and pattern, a harlot poncho for myself, a hat that my dog ate the top off of and I have yet to fix, and I'm now working on another Harlot poncho for me.

Bad host

I'm such a horrible host. I've been letting this plug along. I've been hear reading and commenting but I've been a slacker about posting my own stuff.
Most of this stuff is meant to be for xmas but I have a horrible habit of giving people these things as they are completed.

Socks for Dad

I have one mitt of a pair done for my girlie

Hat for the Momster

And everything else is either still a UFO or all for me me me.
At least I've gotten 2 new pairs of wintery socks for myself as its already darn cold here in Maine.

I hope you are all doing well and staying warm.

One Down a Million to Go

I finished my first holiday gift. A Multidirectional Scarf for my son's speech therapist. I had to finish this early because we may not have her by the holidays. We are hoping to get him into pre-school by then. I wish I had more done by this point but something is something.

getting somewhere

But still not out of the woods yet (does that mean I am lost??)

Anyway as an update I figured I would tell you that I've got

  • 1/3 of the quilt done
  • 1/4 of the cross stitch for the inlaws done
  • a scarf more than 1/2 completed
  • hush hush with more than 5 inches and
  • a baby sweater that took me less than a week!!

And as a good girl I can show you the pic of the baby sweater. Its Haiku from Knitty and I really loved how fast this knit up. It looks lovely and I think I'll drop by and get some buttons tonite so I can send her off to the mom. (early presents for the holidays don't bother mom's with youngun's)

I know I won't get everything done I want for the holidays, but I am having fun trying!
